The Writers Studio Teacher

A Writers Studio teacher is someone who embodies professionalism, passion and precision in teaching. Our teachers are dedicated to nurturing every student’s growth while maintaining academic and ethical standards. They take pride in helping students learn to take ownership and be resilient to improve in the English language.

Employment and Qualifications

Most of our teachers are employees, though we also work with select adjunct teachers who share our teaching philosophy.

  • Teachers must have at least three years of teaching experience before joining Writers Studio.
  • All new teachers undergo structured training upon joining to ensure alignment with our curriculum and pedagogical standards.
  • Teachers must be fully aware of the expectations of PSLE, O-Level and IP programmes.
  • Creative Writing teachers must hold a degree related to English, with preference given to those with English or Literature degrees.
  • Secondary school teachers are required to have a qualification in Literature.

Leave and Relief Policy

Teachers are contracted not to take more than two pre-arranged leaves per term. While unforeseen illness may occur, our centre follows a clear handover and relief protocol to ensure a seamless transition and consistent learning experience for students.

In the event of an absence, the teacher will personally update parents via the Parent Portal. We believe that open communication maintains the teacher–student relationship and helps parents stay informed and reassured about their child’s progress.

Lesson Updates and Organisation

After each lesson, teachers are required to:

  • Provide lesson updates and record assigned homework for modules that include take-home work.
  • Complete marking promptly and ensure students’ marked work is archived in given files
  • Place work in progress in the student’s personal folder to support continuity and revision.

This system ensures that every child’s learning is well-organised and that parents can clearly see the progress made in class.

Parent–Teacher Meetings

We believe in transparent collaboration between parents and teachers. There are two forms of Parent–Teacher meetings at Writers Studio:

  • Ad-hoc Meetings (On-Demand): Parents may request meetings with their child’s teacher at any time to discuss progress. You may share your child’s school worksheets or test results so that our teachers can tailor lessons to address specific weaknesses. All our teachers are trained to handle these discussions constructively and professionally.
  • Scheduled Meetings (At least twice yearly): Formal Parent–Teacher Meetings are conducted every six months to review your child’s progress. These sessions align your expectations and goals with your child’s performance and evolving needs.

For junior students, teachers take extra care to guide both child and parent, offering insights into class mentorship and development.

For graduating students, teachers provide closer monitoring, targeted catch-up sessions, and specialised worksheets to help students secure a good placement in their desired schools.
