Starbright
Creative Writing
(Pri 1 to Pri 2)
For Primary 1 to 2 Students | Creative Writing Foundation | MOE-aligned

Big imaginations need the right tools. Starbright Junior is where early primary students learn how to turn their creative ideas into well-written stories that meet school standards. We guide children through the foundations of writing: planning, describing, and expressing ideas 2clearly. Every activity is designed to spark their imagination and help them grow as young writers with confidence and joy.

Starbright Junior Creative Writing Programme introduces Primary 1 and 2 students to writing in a gentle, structured way. Children start with simple descriptions and gradually progress to writing full stories.
Each lesson builds core writing skills such as observing details, expressing emotions, and describing characters and settings. As students familiarise with the story mountain planning approach, they learn to develop stories that are coherent. Coherence and structure are two main pitfalls in junior writing.
With age-appropriate activities including mini sports, performances by our teachers, role play, simulated settings and puppetry, Starbright helps young learners gain empathy for characters and develop more convincing stories.
Through a step-by-step approach, students learn to write stories that reflect real-life situations, helping them connect personal experiences with creative expression.

What makes the Starbright Programme truly special is that it goes beyond writing skills to nurture character development and emotional growth. Lessons encourage children to think deeply about values, behaviour, and relationships, helping them write with both heart and purpose.
Students learn to show emotions through dialogue and actions, rather than simply stating them. They are also introduced to expressive language, including idioms and emotion-based vocabulary, to make their stories more vivid and meaningful.
Through class discussions, role-play, and shared reading, children develop confidence in both writing and speaking, learning to express their thoughts with empathy and imagination.
By the end of Primary 2, students who complete the Starbright Creative Writing Programme can be promoted to the intermediate and advanced writing stages in Primary 3 to 6. They are now able to handle writing at a much higher level and handle skills that we will be covering in our P3 to 6 Starbright programmes.
The entire spectrum of our Starbright programme is developed specially by Creative Writing teaching experts for writing students. Most of our Starbright students at the P5 and 6 who use writing as an approach to enter their dream schools through DSA have succeeded.

Students engage in role-play, story-based tasks,
and guided discussions — all structured to teach
writing skills in an age-appropriate way.
Instead of rote memorisation, students explore new
vocabulary and grammar through context-rich
activities that promote real understanding.
We introduce the art of description through simple
metaphors, similes, and sensory words. Children
learn to paint pictures with words, not just list facts.
Our experienced teachers offer personalised
feedback to support growth and build confidence
in every child — no matter their starting point.
From sequencing to sentence formation, we help students organise their ideas and create stories with a
clear beginning, middle, and end.
Parents will be able to assess their child’s progress through detailed marking by experienced teachers and periodic graded assessments.
