Blubber by Judy Blume
Reviewed by Kylene Goh, Methodist Girls' School
"Blubber is a very interesting book. I read this book on an idyllic Sunday afternoon without regrets. It is about a girl named Jill who gave her classmate, Linda, a cruel name of Blubber. This was because she was the pudgiest girl in class and her project report about whales brought to mind that her size was like a whale's. Whales contain much blubber. Jill was trying to hurt Linda's feelings by ridiculing her.
This story portrays how bullies victimise others and teaches me not to do the same. In the end, Jill was the one being bullied by being called names instead.
I realise that when we are mean to others, they will feel hurt. This story teaches me to be humble and sensitive to other people's feelings. It is a meaningful story."
